RECALLED DISHWASHERS

RECALL UK

Recall UK is an essential website for keeping us informed of the latest recalls. In my opinion they do an amazing job.

I recently read the following article
http://www.recalluk.com/news/hotpoint-has-done-it-again.aspx

This article backs my view on why the UK recall system is flawed. Firstly how can a major company get away with doing so little to promote a major problem, especially regarding their track record with these machines.

A rough calculation by myself adding together the tabloid sales and working out the percentage against the UK population works out that Hotpoint probably targeted 6% of the population at a cost of about £100,000

That speaks for itself, the UK recall system needs a major shake up. I actually tried my best to find information on the Hotpoint website but could only find information on previous recalled machines

HOTPOINT RECALL FURTHER DISHWASHERS, BUT HOW PUBLIC HAVE THEY GONE?

Well HOTPOINT or INDESIT have recalled further dishwashers that carry the same components as previous models.

You can see the latest affected models here
http://www.which.co.uk/news/2013/11/safety-notice-hotpoint-dishwashers-fire-risk-341617/

This is further to another batch recalled in Ireland
http://www.independent.ie/irish-news/up-to-2000-dishwashers-are-at-risk-of-sparking-fire-29557187.html

They are in my opinion getting away with making light of the overall scale of the major problem that they have.

Hotpoint are recalling machines in small amounts with little publicity, HOW LONG WILL THEY GET AWAY WITH THIS.

If you read my posts you will become aware that I know they have other affected models and I have been trying to make this public all along.

They should be made to tell everyone the full extent and tell us every model that contains the affected module.

I HOPE NO SERIOUS FATALITY IS ALLOWED TO OCCUR WITH MACHINES THAT THEY ARE AWARE ARE STILL IN PEOPLES HOMES. THE FDW70 FOR EXAMPLE....

OVER 80 DISHWASHER FIRES IN 2013 THAT I KNOW THE FIRE SERVICE ATTENDED

This is an update to the Google map I am building of the dishwasher fires that I am aware of in 2013, I believe there will be more that I am unaware of including people that have had near misses and managed to deal with them like myself.

If anyone knows the make and model of any of the machines involved please let me know and I will update the map to show this

The link to the Google map is:   http://goo.gl/maps/OHOqB

UK RECALL SYSTEM

My views on how the UK recall system should operate

The following is my personal view on how the recall system should operate in the UK. Thankfully I was able to air one of my views on the ITV Tonight programme with Chris Choi on Thursday 4th of July 2013

Scenario:  product fails, how many cases before company has to inform RDB (RDB (recall database)  should be an independant body with no link to any manufacturer ) personally I think two. Obviously if death was caused then one, however any duplicated incident must be forwarded to RDB by law. If this doesn’t happen a large fine must be implemented (all fines must be non-profitable and used solely to publicise recall publicity, emphasise placed on the company’s failure to comply) you would like to think this would push companies to take safety more serious i.e. more strenuous testing before product reaches wholesale market.
After informing RDB the company involved must perform a thorough in house investigation and inform RDB of its full outcome, within a strict timeline.
At that point RDB should be in charge of how the recall should be implemented on a pre-defined scale of severity. This scale should again involve a fine that is used to fund publicity.
Once a recall is implemented this should be monitored throughout the length however long this will be within reason, again defined by RDB. Depending on the severity this should be defined by a rolling percentage i.e. every two months after the original recall date RDB should be provided with the relevant figures, if after six months the target percentage has not been achieved then a further publicity campaign must be launched.
This is just a concise version of my ideas regarding how I envisage the up-to-date recall system should be, we need to move with the times, for example recalls should be publicised in the key areas i.e. target the highest viewed news programmes across all major networks. Also target the adverts between the highest viewed programmes, we have to remember life is more valuable than money..

Again moving with the times key areas to be targeted should include all major search engines, and all major networking sites, the internet is a powerful advertising platform, radio and newspapers too.

What to do if you have a faulty product, and see what items have been recalled

WHO CAN HELP ME ? DO YOU HAVE A RECALLED PRODUCT IN YOUR HOUSE!!

While trying to resolve the problems that I encountered it has become clear to me the extent of dangerous items that are out there in peoples houses. Another fact is that the general public don't always know who to contact when faced with a faulty product.

Please take a look at the following links that contain information regarding who to contact, what to do and also information regarding all recalled products.

Thank you for taking time to read this blog, if you have any feedback or require further help please contact me and I will try to provide any advice that I can.

HOTPOINT RECALL DISHWASHER DUE TO FIRE RISK

HOTPOINT RECALL DISHWASHER DUE TO FIRE RISK

Hopefully more and more people are becoming aware that Hotpoint are recalling some of their affected dishwashers that have the potential to KILL, however although Hotpoint admit they are a risk they are telling customers to carry on using these risky machines as it will be okay until they get round to sending an engineer out to fix the potential fire hazard. YES that is the truth look here

 http://www.hotpointservice.co.uk/dishwasher-faqs/

The whole way that Hotpoint are able to control the way they handle this recall is in my view disgraceful the ESC (Electrical Safety Council) has this to say on their website:

The Electrical Safety Council recommends that anyone who discovers they have an electrical item that has been recalled should stop using it until it has been checked by the manufacturer.

You can read the full article here

http://www.esc.org.uk/public/guides-and-advice/product-recalls/recall/recall/hotpoint-dishwashers/

As I stated in my opening line Hotpoint are recalling some of their affected Dishwashers, I say this because I am aware of several incidents that have occurred on machines that are not on the recall list, HOW DO THEY GET AWAY WITH THAT!!!

Above is a module from a DWF70s this was posted on-line back in December 2011 spot the similarity to my previous posts.

HOTPOINT RECALL FDW20 FDW60 FDW65A DISHWASHER DUE TO FIRE RISK

HOTPOINT RECALL FDW20 FDW60 FDW65A DISHWASHER DUE TO FIRE RISK

How have Hotpoint Indesit been able to get away with withholding from the public the fact that they have planted at least 71,000 fire hazards in peoples houses and known about this for at least 6 months before making it public!!! Indeed over that 6 months they only contacted 10% surely 6 months ago they knew that they could only reach that many, I will not publish my thoughts on how they have handled this yet, but I do hope the telephone conversation I had with them a month ago when I told them they are admitting a problem to a few people but not reaching the mass (scandalous) I told them they must make it public.

I will state this now I believe that there are many more machines other than the recalled ones that pose a problem I am aware of several other machines that are out of the recall parameter indeed 2 of them are totally different models one being the DWF70 the reason I believe this: Why try their own campaign? so they could handle a trickle of repairs! Why only recall three models?  Because they can only handle these at the moment! These are my opinions only time will tell if I am right, but I hope that no life is lost before the full extent of this problem is known by all of the owners, not just the manufacturers...

Hotpoint criticised over dishwasher alert 'delay'

http://youtu.be/NN5crcFGIt0

WE NEED TO DO OUR BEST TO MAKE EVERYONE AWARE THERE ARE STILL OVER 60,000 MACHINES IN PEOPLES HOMES. EVEN MORE FRIGHTENING IS THE FACT THAT THESE MACHINES HAVE BUILT IN TIMERS WHICH PEOPLE USE ON A NIGHT TO SAVE MONEY ON ELECTRIC PRICES. THE CONSEQUENCES DON'T BARE THINKING ABOUT.

HOTPOINT INDESTIT FDW FIRE HAZARD

Hotpoint Indesit have finally admitted the problem with their range of dishwashers after months / years of trying to hide the problem. I will be able to sleep a little better at night now that they are recalling the dishwashers. I knew that the FDW60 was a fire hazard from the moment mine set on fire, I just hope this recall reaches the national news and TV.
